Breathe Well
With wildfire smoke contributing to poor air quality this summer, many are wondering what to do. Because of high concentrations of tiny, difficult to filter particles in wildfire plumes, exposure to this type of smoke can be harmful to anyone. Poor air quality is particularly dangerous to those with chronic lung diseases, asthma, and allergies, as well as children, elderly people, and pregnant women.
Here are a few smart tips you can implement to protect you and your family:
1. Stay indoors during the hours or days with peak pollution. Your local weather station can help you monitor each day’s air quality. (airnow.gov is also a good resource)
2. Shut and latch your windows.
3. Wear an N95 respirator mask when outdoors.
4. Avoid smoking and burning indoors.
5. Use environmentally friendly home care and personal care products.
6. Choose home products that have low VOC (volatile organic compounds) including paint and carpeting.
7. Have plants in your home that have air purification properties such as aloe vera, ferns, rubber plant and philodendron.
8. Use air purifiers with HEPA filters.
9. When driving your car through smokey areas, put the fan or air conditioner on recirculate.
In addition, there are some Shaklee products that may help your body deal with the stress of poor air quality.
Anti-oxidants such as Vitamin A and C
Vitamin D3 – because pollution reduces your body’s ability to make vitamin D from the sun.
Omega 3 – to help your body reduce inflammation and protect the cardiovascular system.
Alfalfa Tabs – always a good anti-inflammatory.
Get Clean Home Care Products – environmentally friendly products that help you clean without toxic fumes and chemical residues.
